I've been waiting for an appropriate line to quote to comment on this. Where I live is somewhat unique in that I am about 200 feet from the "road to anywhere" - a 55 mph highway I usually turn left on, that has a blind curve a few hundred yards "to the right". Meaning, if I follow the old-school VAG intructions of "don't warm it up, just drive", I am at that stop sign with a cold engine, and when I pull out I never know in advance if I might have to goose it because a semi just came around the corner behind me. Meaning, at least once or twice a week I red line the thing in second less than 60 seconds after starting a cold engine.
