I second the list wisdom. The new paint should increase the value of your
car... as long as you can show that the new paint was not due to an overly
rusted body.

In my experience of buying rebuilt titles, there are two things I always
look at (and I don't even consider the car if they're not available):
- Pictures of the car before the accident so I can see what the car looked
like before it was repaired and resprayed and what was damaged.
- The detailed bill of the rebuilt to make sure there's no critical part
(especially suspension or wheels) replaced and I can assess the quality of
the respray based on its cost (I won't consider a car with a full base/clear
respray below 3K$ and paint jobs are significantly cheaper in Canada).

So I suggest you take plenty of pictures to document everything that's
damaged _and not damaged_ before you have your car repaired, and that you
also keep the repair bill.

If, in your case, you can show with pictures and the repair bill that there
was only body panel damage and there was no rust before the accident, the
car will definitely be worth more than a car with a 15 years old or so
paint.

Now, you don't need to tell that to your insurance company if it's not to
your advantage (don't know how if insurance fees are proportional to the car
value in US) but if a lower value can lower your insurance fees, a 30%
diminished value for a rebuilt title is very reasonable (rebuilt title
values are 30-50% less from what I've seen in Canada).

Evening folks:

I was recently involved in a parking lot accident with my urS4.
Repairable, but being a non-clear coated red, the repair would be very
obvious.

After much negotiations with the insurance company, I am having the whole
car repainted in a base coat / clear coat paint including all surfaces.

Anywho, if a good urS4 is worth X, how much lees do you feel a properly
repaired and repainted urS4 is worth.

I will compile some of these opinions in my "dimished value" claim.
