[s-cars] Leaks n LightsMichael Lardizabal mikellardizabal at yahoo.comTue Nov 17 06:04:34 PST 2009
Bil- In regards to the fuel line rot....my first S car had pretty bad corrosion at the same spot especially at the point where it meets the fuel tank. What I ended up doing was scrubbing all the lines with 0 & 00 steel wool, and where I suspected there was going to be eventual rupture I wrapped w/ fiberglass cloth and expoxied to form a strong bond. Then I coated the whole length w/ POR15. 3 coats total w/ about 2 hrs dry time in between. POR15 bonds to whatever its applied to and makes it even stronger....at least thats what the ad says....but its the industry standard . The repairs I did to my 79 Landcruiser w/ the stuff is still holding good according to the gall that bought it from me years ago. The only drawback is you need to protect yourself from the stuff as it stains your skin black . Fortunately my high pressure line was OK but the other two were shot, so I used a metal to plastic adapter at each end and ran all plastic lines. Working good so far. One is the infamous fuel line leak underneath, by passenger side door due to corrosion. I would like a cheesy but permanent fix because that prolly doesnt exist, but I thought maybe some glop of Permatex then jb weld ? I've known this was coming as I've been watching the line corrosion there for some time. I think it not much more than a pin head now but snow and salt are on the horizon. The other issue has also been around for some time and I think is related to the brake fluid reservoir. The IC brake light is always coming on when I go around corners. I believe it's the fluid float sensor... but can I just jumper this? Is it on the top or the bottom of the reservoir? Other than that the pig travels on and can still motor on past anything in it's way with ease. Still rated a supecar, but a 14 yr old one.
