To disable the alarm, open the driver's door panel, and disconnect the wire at a connection down near the "b" piller/door post. That will keep the key on the driver's door side from activating/de-activating the alarm. Also could lock the door from the back door (with driver's door shut) and end up with locked car, no alarm set. I often use a quick twist of the key in the lock to lock the door but not arm the alarm.
The alarm monitors the four doors, the hood, possibly the ground to the radio, and the trunk. The trunk lock has a switch that temporarily disables that part of the circuit as well (and is likely the source of my "issues" with my alarm). The alarm also has a starter-defeat circuit.
I don't know if the VAG-COM or other software emulation of the VAG 1551/2 can interface with our alarm...
