The 3214 tool worked nicely to release the pump assembly. Getting it
aligned and then fitting a 1/2" drive to it was bit of a pain. There is
little "headroom" above the tool for a drive handle.

The new pump and its plastic adapter sleeve ("pin") fit perfectly into the
(larger) space occupied by the old pump.

The new fuel hose that I purchased (from Carlsen),--which connects the pump
outlet to sender unit--was indeed needed and fit OK. Damned expensive for
what it is, though.

The lower screened basket of the pump housing was clean as a whistle. I
reinstalled it "as-is". The inside of the gas tank was beautifully clean,
Under the filter basket was about 1/4 teaspoon of brownish grit--like
coarse sand. It didn't seem to be going anywhere (without a struggle), so I
left it.

The new pump's electrical fittings (fine-thread studs) were _not_ the same
size as on the old pump. I had to make a special trip to Home Depot to find
a 5 mm nut, inasmuch as Bosch does not see fit to provide their $200 pump
with the nuts for these studs. One of the wire connectors from the old
harness needed to be replaced with a smaller size in order to fit well.

The "tool" was needed to reinstall the pump assembly. And now...
