Where in Michigan are you? I'm in the Detroit area. There are a few people
who not only know these cars, but really appreciate them. And if they worked
at that dealership you've gone to, they've probably left to:

a) start up their own shop

    or

b) Work for another reputable independent shop.

They probably can't diagnose anything without OBDII! Anyhow, you better have
cats on that baby (cause it is against the law in Michigan not to have cats
on a car originally equipped with cats) BIG FINE!!! But I'm sure you got
cats, (otherwise you can sue the place that supposedly put them on). Anyhow,
assuming now you have cats:

Have them empty the oil, refill to lower oil dipstick mark, and then
diagnose. The BIG problem with dealerships is they have a very high FLAT
RATE (the Audi one closest to my house is $95/hr plus....) and they really
only want to work on the newer cars. Reputable independent shops will quote
you maybe $150-200 for the diagnosis, applying that to the repair.
