Look what I found. Please forgive the wordiness (I copied it straight off the
sight;-) Maybe this is the one you should consider if you're thinking about
Mobil Synthetic, especially when you look at the application data.
While I'm interested, I have no vested interest.
YMMV

Mobiltrans SHC® 50
Product Description
Mobiltrans SHC 50 is a synthetic, heavy-duty SAE 50 gear oil manufactured
from a blend of synthesized hydrocarbons and carefully selected esters. The
additive system provides outstanding high-temperature detergency and
wide-temperature dispersancy with optimized protection against thermal
degradation and oxidation, wear, and corrosion.
Mobiltrans SHC 50 is formulated to provide maximum performance in truck and
other commercial transmissions where a high-quality engine oil formulation is
preferred over a sulfur-phosphorus high-EP gear oil. In those applications,
Mobiltrans SHC 50 provides maximum stability at high temperatures to prevent
carbon deposits and prolong seal life. It will not corrode copper and its
alloys, thereby providing maximum protection for gear synchronizers.
Mobiltrans SHC 50 has the same viscosity as most SAE 50 engine oils and SAE
90 gear lubricants at the high end of the temperature-viscosity scale.
However, because of its inherently higher viscosity index and unique
molecular structure, it provides a better protective film at higher
temperatures than conventional oils, without the addition of VI improvers. It
is completely shear stable and retains its film strength even under the most
severe mechanical shearing encountered in automotive manual transmissions and
other non-hypoid gear applications. At low temperatures, the product offers
an extremely low pour point of -51°C (-60°F) and remains fluid without
channeling at subzero temperatures.
Applications
Mobiltrans SHC 50 is recommended for year-round lubrication of automotive
manual transmissions in light-duty to extremely heavy-duty on-highway
vehicles and off-highway equipment. This includes subzero conditions in
arctic climates and operations requiring lubricants with relatively high
viscosity and good load-carrying ability. Eaton and Rockwell transmissions
specify heavy-duty API CD engine oils exclusively if normal or extended
drains must be maintained. Mobiltrans SHC 50 is a fully approved Eatonª
Roadrangerª quality lubricant. It is designed for transmissions covered by
the Eaton Roadranger and Rockwell extended warranties of 750,000 miles, with
oil drains of 500,000 miles. It is, also, approved by Mack against its new
T0-A+ 500,000 mile extended service specification.
Mobiltrans SHC 50 meets the API MT-1 EP gear oil service classification and
is suitable for transmissions and gear cases where API GL-1 through GL-4 gear
protection is required. It is NOT suitable for hypoid gear applications of
differentials and final drives, either for topping-off or refills, where API
GL-5 or MIL-PRF-2105E multi-purpose lubricants are specified.
Mobiltrans SHC 50 is ideal for extremely low- and high-temperature
applications. It provides outstanding thermal stability, deposit control, and
seal protection exceeding the proposed PG-2 performance level. It provides
excellent FZG gear protection in stages 1 through 11. It also provides
outstanding CRC L-60 gear oxidation and thermal breakdown deposit protection.
Mobiltrans SHC 50 is a good companion for Mobilube SHC 75W-90 and 80W-140 for
fleets converting manual transmissions and rear axles to synthetic products
for gear life filling (500,000 miles).
It provides maximum protection, all-weather performance, and a fuel economy
advantage of up to three percent when used in conjunction with a synthetic
rear axle lubricant. Mobiltrans SHC 50 also can be used as a companion to
Mobil Delvac 1 in a synthetic lube package for fleet applications.
