[200q20v] RKE question

Craig,

I used a Directed Electronics Inc. model 711 series remote keyless entry
(RKE) system in my 200Q-20V <www.directed.com>, only because the PO of my
90Q-20V had installed a DEI alarm system (another story), and I wanted to
use the same remote for all three of my cars. A great feaature where they
are garaged and not requiring to be locked at home, inasmuch as there is
only one remote key to carry for any of my cars. But any RKE will work with
a few constraints.

Don't buy an alarm system, Better intergrate the RKE into the Audi alarm
system.

The RKE system needs to have Lock and Unlock relay outputs (SPDT contacts)
and a selectable output pulse width, 3 to 3.5 msec required for the Audi
pneumatic door locking system. They can be seperate relays, but wiring is
much simpler and neater if they are built into the RKE. Don't let anyone
sell you door lock actuators, as they are not needed or desireable.

If you have the Bentley wiring diagrams and are into do it yourself wiring,
so do. I spent more time stripping out the PO's professionly installed
alarm and repearing the wiring damage done by those butchers than installing
the RKEs on all three cars. Let me know if I can help with the details.

Bernie
