I made it home from this week's NEQ track event at WGI, but not before
trashing my G-60 pads and---unexpectedly, my S4-type rotors as well. I
didn't have a spare set of rotors with me, but I did install my spare set
of new pads (Remsa silver) just to get me home, which is only 90-100 miles
on the  NYS Thruway.

Now, here's the question: My old rotors are "trashed" in the sense that
they are quite deeply grooved and discolored, so when I install the new Ate
rotors (regular, not Powerdisk) in a couple of days, is it mandatory that I
use a fresh set of pads--even though the present ones will have only about
2-300 miles of gentle braking by then? Obviously the current set of pads
will be slightly grooved, right? Won't these used pads damage the new
rotors--cause uneven hardening, etc?

Or, should I just wait to install the new rotors when I've obtained a
better set of pads--perhaps Pagids? That'll delay things an extra few days.

I am considering doing the BIRA brake upgrade eventually--stated for Greg's
benefit :-)--my immediate need is for the best "temporary" solution.
