[200q20v] HELP!! Catalytic converter...

Hey all,
     My catalytic converters are shot! I was driving down the road, and 
something went wrong.. chunks of metal started flying out of the exhaust 
(and red hot  chunks at that!). Brought to the dealer (it was on its way 
there anyway..) and they have quoted me $2400 to repair and replace. What 
should I do? I live in MI, so there are no emissions checks, but is that an 
intelligent thing to do? What are my other options, and where might I obtain 
some less expensive cats?  HELP!!!
