[200q20v] Water Pump??

I recently purchased a 1991 200 with 90,000 miles.  Well taken care of with the timing belt replaced at 80,000 miles.  However, it appears that the water pump has not been replaced.  If the water pump seizes (as it did on my Alfa Romeo years ago) will the timing belt break and thus ruin some of the valves and generate costly repairs???
