Red Hot chunks = Too much fuel.
A few years ago at Road America I had a boost hose leak and was black
flagged for the red hot stuff coming out the tail pipe. I pounded out the
melted stuff, fixed the leak, and ended up with a hollow droan at 55 mph.
An Austrian exhaust mfg told me to extend a piece of pipe into the empty cat
to remove the droan. Didn't do it just installed a 3" system.

Just gut the things! Save untold amounts of cash in a state that will
never check, as long as you're going to stay there.
