BTDT on both sides of the equation.
My '91 Avant had 205's on it when I bought it.
It didn't seem to be an issue, but they were relatively
new and all four the same.  I ran them for over a year.
I then went to 225's which I liked, but on my 2nd trip
to Pikes Peak (AudiFest98) I noticed a definite decrease
in mpg.

My V8 had the stock size (215-60's) when I bought it
and I have gone to 225's since due to the dirth of tire
options in the stock size.  Hard to define what difference
was realized as a result since the V8 has quite different
power characteristics than the 20vt (i.e. torque).

Anyway, I still think 205's are being really taxed by 
4000 pounds of Audi.
