It is really necessary. As the fan motor gets older, the chances it could
seize increase. With no fusible link, it will take out a major portion of
the wiring harness (meaning big bucks!!!). I've found that the link corrodes
with age and exposure to all the crud blown through the radiator, and should
be replaced every 7 years? or thereabouts. They're about 0.80 at a dealer.
