Yes, oil in the distributor means that the shaft seal is leaking.  You can't
replace the seal without removing the drive gear.  You can't remove the gear
without breaking it.  If you break it, a new gear only comes with a new
distributor.  Oil in the distributor will not impare its operation, so run
it.  You may be able to stop the seal leak by adding a can of engine seal
restorer to the engine oil.  At $5. you have nothing to loose, and this fix
is much cheaper than a new distributor.

Red rust on the plugs!  All or just 1 or 2?  Are you loosing any coolent?
Could be coolent getting into the intake or head gasket going bad.  If you
hadn't looked at the plugs. you wouldn't know.  Don't fix it 'til it breaks.
