[200q20v] child seat

The A3 is built upon the same body as the Golf IV (the current model). SO
likes it alot. We were looking into an A4 Avant, but decided against it, as
the A4 isn't really much bigger. Maybe 3-4 inch, but only in the storage
area. The A3 is slightly _wider_ in the back than the A4. Might want to look
at http://www.audi.de.

There is a similar child seat available with a base being stored in the car.
Unfortunately, not for the infant size. Newer cars have something called
ISOFIX. These are two hinges, which are installed in the car without being
visible. The child seat is just plugged into this thingy and off you go.
Quite nice, and we will have such a seat when my girl gets older. Isn't it
funny how fast they grow...

The third seat (rear) wasn't a USA option until the next body style followed
in '92. Doesn't look like it provides much crash protection for the kids...

My rear-facing child seat for my 3-month and a day old son has a separate
base that you install using the seat belts; it then locks in place to the
base. Handy; you can take the child in/out without waking them; the seat
also has provisions for a belt across the top, in case you want to use it in
a second car (or just buy a second base).

My '81 (old body style) VW Scirocco sounds like your A3; better gas mileage,
fits two kids in the rear...

<< Chris,

I would prefer using the 200 most of the time as well, as it has a lot more
space available. But the current baby seat does not fit (our daughter is 12
weeks old). Also, the A3 is a diesel, the 200 has an MTM turbo. Difference
in gas costs per 100 km is about DEM 10,-- / DEM 35,-- :-(

Any one out there with the rear facing third seat row installed? It was an
option in germany, don't know about the US.

Well, I fit three kid seats across in the 200q20v sedan; try that in the
A3...

the baby transporter. Way better than the big 200 Avant

Listers,

Has anyone had a problem of installing a child seat in a 200. Mine is an
Avant (should not make a difference) and the seat will not stay securely
strapped in. It moves from side to side. Any suggestions ?

Thanks,
Max
