Last night I replaced the fuel pump in my '91 TQW.  It took
about 2.5 hours start to finish. The instructions at Chris
Miller's site are invaluable and right on.  I gambled that I
could get by without the special tool, and I am happy to
report that it is absolutely NOT needed. Removal of the
upper reservoir, which carries the pump, can be done with a
long drift (I used an 18" screwdriver which extended out the
tank hatch). There are four notches in the upper rim of the
reservoir to seat the drift in, and a couple of medium raps
with a hammer will loosen the puppy. Installation is the
reverse, yadda.....
