So, I finally got tired of a non-functional radio and gave a call to Mac
@Clair.
"How much, front left and right side?"
"Well, -IF- we could get them new, $500 each. But we can't get them.
Reman units are available, $190 plus $120 core charge. I assume you'll
want to mull this over a bit."
"Yeah, you could say that."
So, I suppose Audi's "recall" is going to involve us all running out and
buying reman units that are just as defective as the originals? Audi's
been rather silent on the whole thing, and its been what, two months since
NHSTA's announcement? I have yet to get a letter/call.
I'm ordering replacement circuit boards for the fronts as I type...half
the cost of the reman units, and no stupid core charge(and they're not
defective, either, since the guy uses properly spec'd components.)
Besides, I seriously doubt Audi will admit that when the rear speakers go,
they damage the fronts(apparently, this happens on other Bose systems too;
one amp will damage the other amps, so it's not just a problem with the
rear speakers; also note the large number of people who have had to get
fronts replaced, sometimes more than once!)
