Interesting question and understandable concern--even though the fact
that "other" Bose speakers may become noisey (or silent?) doesn't
necessarily mean that their amplifiers are combustion-prone. You
might want to have a look (make photo?) at your wife's Caprice
speakers to determine the amps bear a physical resemblance to the
ones in our Audis. I doubt if you'd get much response from an enquiry
to Bose or GM, but perhaps NHTSA might tell you if they are
investigating reports of fires from Bose speakers in GM cars.

It's just a speculation, but a possible reason that Audi/VW says a
"solution" is not yet available is that Bose knows they  face a much
more extensive problem than providing a "fix" for just a few thousand
Audis.
