[200q20v] jitters

okay, I've been noticing this more and more. Cruising along, the car
surges a little; letting up completely on the pedal causes violent
jerking in most gears, which the car has done almost every day of the
3 years I've owned it, and I've finally had it. I want to get rid of
that damn jerking.

My first inclination was the idle position switch, but I would think
the ECU would store a fault if the switch said "hey, I'm at idle!"
while the potentiometer said "full steam ahead!" Check engine bulb
is installed, and functions properly; I've accidentally caused fault
codes :) I suppose it's possible both sensors are bad, but then that
would certainly(?) generate a code...

Thoughts?
