Hi All-
I'm still getting to know the 200 20V Quattro, so I thought I'd pass on my
continued observances of the car....
When I first started driving her, I indicated that it would stall for no
reason while cruising at low speeds, in gear. This would normally only happen
during the first 10 minutes of driving her. For whatever reason, this problem
has somehow disappeared.
A fellow lister confirmed the Pirelli P8000's I have on the car are known for
their noise, so I think I am going to try to arrange for an exchange from
Sears.
The popping in my speakers come and go. Some days there is none, others its
every 5 minutes. Regardless, I am having the dealer check this out-my car did
not receive the airbag sensor recall, so when I have that done, I'll have
them check out a couple of other annoyances.
Otherwise, I really don't have much to complain about. She runs quite strong,
and I confess, I am intrigued to see what kind of performance I can get once
I can acheive full boost.
Apart from that, I do have some questions about the 91 200 Quattro in
general. I know we've discussed production figures here, but why did Audi
build such an exceptional car for just one year, only to have it replaced by
the comparitively lethargic 100/200 cars of 1992? Why were these cars built
in such limited numbers? Were they built alongside regular 100/200 cars, or
seperately?
I guess I find it hard to believe that, according to factory figures, this
car could eat Ferrari 308's for lunch, shame Porsche 944's, and practically
keep up with BMW M5's that Audi did not exploit this car further.
I went to an Audi dealer today to pick up my new floor mats. I went to the
showroom first to check out the new cars. I sat in a TT Coupe for the first
time. It was neat, but it didn't overwhelm me, I think the media hype may
have raised my expectations so high it put the car at a disadvantage. Also
checked out an S4. You know, I hate to say it, but if I could have my pick of
any car to leave that dealership in, it would have been my own 200 Quattro.
There I was staring at a $40,000 S4, and it still did not excite me like my
own car does. I guess that's a good thing, since I can't afford a new S4, and
I should also bear in mind that ten years ago this car sold for $45,000.
Anyhow, I'll appreciate any comments/insight you guys can provide, and as
always, thanks.
