[200q20v] Non-Bose Radio Pin-Out??
Hemberger, Chris

Hello All:
I am in the process of trying to retrofit an aftermarket radio/tape player
into my 91 200 TQ as replacement for the non-Bose factory system. Does
anybody know the pin-outs of the three harnesses/connectors plugged into the
Delta unit? All I really need to know are the various speaker connections.
Also, the antenna lead has a male end which is different than the
conventional type I have always seen - any ideas on adapters or do I have to
splice in the more common universal connector? Any help would be
appreciated. As usual - Thanks.

Subject: [200q20v] Stupid question- sidemarker lights
Listers,
I have a stupid question- purely cosmetic.
Does anyone sell clear/smoked side marker lights for
the '91 200q20v? They are rectangular lights,
different from the later A4/A6/A8 side markers,
which are square and then later on, elliptical.
Also, does anyone sell clear/smoked front turn
signal lights?
This is to complement to clear corner markers of the
Eurolights and in anticipation of a full V8 taillight
set sometime in the future.

Dahlback Racing in Sweden will ship to the U.S. Looks like these are the
same as what's on our cars. Something I've had on my (long) to do list. Let

Rapidparts.com and probably any vw aftermarket place
has the rectangular ones that fit our cars. I think
they're $35/pair. Not only do they have smoked and
tint but yellow, blue and red too.
I got (OEM style) Hella replacements from them at a
pretty good deal but I think the guy at the desk
misquoted the price.

Yup, Night Shades about $10 per can. I blacked out my
front turn signals and the amber part of my tail
lights. Looks great after 1+ year. Hope it continues
to hold up but if it doesn't I'll get v8 tail lights.

you might find things of interest at the url below... I used the clear
repeaters from the TT, which are a slightly rounded rectangle.

That's a cheap way for sure, but have you measured the light output
after that treatment? If you want your taillights to actually
function effectively as such, then this is a sub-optimal way to do it.

Subject: [200q20v] Help with frozen locks
What can I do to keep the locks from freezing up??
After getting off work tonight and getting to my car, I could not get the
key into the locks. The drivers side would go almost all of the way in, but
I could not get it to turn. I went to the passengers side and got the key
all the way in, but it wouldn't turn either. I kept putting my hands on the
metal lock to try and thaw out the locks and finally got the passengers side
lock to turn.
Once I got in the car and got it running, my climate control showed it was
25 degrees outside. I checked a couple of weeks ago and my car does not
have heated door locks or windshield washers.
Thanks,
Mike

If the key will insert, then a cigarette lighter applied to
it (the key) for a few seconds will do the job of defrosting
the cylinder. But naturally it's not a useful method for
keys with plastic handle, or if you keep cigarette lighter
_inside_ the car. :-(
There are small cans of lock anti-icer spray which allow you
to spritz inside the lock, and these also seem to work
pretty well.
You've evidently tried pulling on the door handle to
activate the lock heater, which I gather you conclude you
don't have on that car? Does that mean you _also_ don't have
the heated sideview mirrors? I wonder why the German-spec
cars would not have these nice cold-weather features. It's
not as though Germany has mild winters. But Europeans do
seem to pride themselves on watching their pennies
(pfennigs?). I guess even the ones who can afford a $40K
sedan.

I put tape over the locks if I'm spray washing in the winter. I've used
the lock-thaw sprays you can get at most auto parts outlets, but I've read
and experienced that they tend to wash the lubricants out of your locks,
making them harder and harder to operate and, eventually, causing early
wear. I used to spray WD40 about once a month (its lubricants tend to dry
out), but this winter I used a lubricant spray that includes some teflon,
and I've felt no need to respray so far.

The quattro list has a classifieds section that, thanks to Mark, is
superb and allows you to submit your very own entry via a web form.
Quick and easy.
I would suggest people use it rather than posting for-sale notices,
which, for the most part, isn't of interest to list members; most
already have an Audi. By placing an ad in the classifieds, you
probably reach a better audience; someone looking for a car will
actually be looking in the classifieds section...not the archives.
To boot, the qlist website is listed by many search engines, so
believe it or not, but there is a large amount of traffic from
non-listers. Not to mention the listings in European Car that
attract some attention as well.
Note that a small donation(I think $5) is suggested in return for a
submission to the marketplace, which I think is more than reasonable
given the costs of running the list and the hard work of Dan and many
volunteers.
I know it's tradition to just post for sale's to the list, but maybe
we can start using the classifieds section more often, now that
they're completely overhauled(and DIY.)
