I had previously erased fault codes before the current no start episode, so it's pretty much a sure thing that the current hall sender error is related to the current no start situation. As far as just replacing hall sender, I believe I'd heard that the hall sender by itself is almost as much as the distributor.
Also, wouldn't some side to side play in a bearing allow a bit of rotational slop at the business end of the dist shaft?
As far as borrowing a distributor from your staff, appreciate the offer, but it might turn out to be more trouble than it's worth. I'm going to try and pull the dist. tonight and check the particulars, including reindexing it; we'll see how much of a difference it makes.
Also, found another source for the viton seals; a company called Air-Oil has a seal division or the like. The place I talked to was in Portland, Oregon, numbers 1-800-242-2672. Pricing was the same.
