Re: Cup holders
What works for me is the one I bought at Brookstone. The
mounts fit perfectly through one of the center console
heater vents on the dash. On cold days, the hot air further
warms your coffee. In the summer, drink Iced Tea in
conjunction with the AC. Not bad, eh?

I had this stumbling issue last year and replaced all the
usual stuff. The problem was a very dirty throttle plate.
This almost never gets serviced/cleaned, and over time the
gunk builds up and inhibits smooth operation. It is very
easy to pull and clean, and if you are careful the gasket
may be re-used........

But doesn't this get us back to the old (I think
unresolved?) question of:
"Assume that 87 octane gives 'best' mpg and that the car
appears to run OK with it. Aren't you then likely to be
pushing the ECU at (or dangerously close to) its limits of
timing retardation? Meaning: greater risk of knock damage?"
Not necessarily my strongly held opinion, but I've let that
reasoning influence my octane choice when fueling the 3B.
Plus the fact that the Gnomes of Ingolstadt wouldn't give us
a "bum steer" about octane requirements, now would they...?

I agree with Phil on this one...especially if you've had an
ECU upgrade
--which basically tells you not to run anything under 91
octane (lest I be
mistaken) when using said ECU.

I like Phil Paynes response to a cup holder thread many
years ago on the
"main list". To paraphrase " My passengers need to be
holding on and not
worrying about their cups" as they shouldn't be drinking
liquid in his car.

Ok guys, I went looking for toluene last night at the H
Depot. No toluene,
but they have a product called xylene. No ingredients on the
can, but on the
side it says it can be used in place of toluene. Have I
found the magic
elixer??

Jerry

xylene is also known as dimethylbenzene and C8H10
tolulene is also known as methylbenzene and formula is C7H8
the difference is the presence of an additional methyl group
on the benzene
ring for xylene....i don't know what you are using it for,
if you are using
it as an organic solvent to clean something then they are
very similar, if
you are doing chemical synthesis, then they are not
interchangable......if
you are trying to make trinitrotolulene (TNT) or something
similar to it,
there are other more appropriate lists to get info ;)

Dave
This has been discussed as an additive to gasolone as an
octane booster,
nothing more sinister than that! It would appear for that
purpose they are
NOT interchangeable.

Perhaps. Toluene could (improperly) be called methyl
benzene. Xylene
could (improperly) be called dimethyl benzene. The two
compounds are
chemically quite similar.
