[200q20v] Need advice: Koni or Bilstein

I had Koni sports on my 94 S4. Installed them with rebound damping set at
about 4 out of 10 (scale soft to hard) . Initially I thought the rebound was
a bit much, but after 6 months, it was better, but after another 6 months,
the rebound was not enough and the car didn't handle well. To me, this said
the shocks were wearing out. I could have pulled them out and cranked up the
rebound, but I felt they should not wear this fast, and didn't feel like
pulling them out every year to crank up the rebound. So instead I pulled
them and replaced with Bilsteins. Very happy with the Bils. Maybe a bit
harsh on compression, but I can live with that. I also put Bils on my 200
Avant. YMM very definitely V, but I've heard other complaints about Konis,
but some people love them. I'd be interested in others experiences.

Before you say why not replace my Bilsteins (broken left front and right 
rear) under warranty -- I bought the car with them already installed, so I'm

not the original owner. 

That said, I'd like to hear the opinions from those of you who've tried
both. 
 I have sachs Springs (similar to Eibachs) and I've been advised that Koni's

(if setup correctly) give a nicer ride.  I liked my bilstein sports on the 
v8q very much, although they could be harsh at times.
