Just a thought...how about a bad/intermittent fuel pump relay?  On my old
4kq, a solder joint inside the relay cracked and caused an intermittent
open.   Car would just suddenly die as the pump quit.   Usually restarted
and ran fine until it happened again.  I found the crack by prying open the
relay case and carefully looking at all the connections.  It might be easier
to just replace it if it's an inexpensive part.
