This is probably old news to many of you, but for those who haven't
considered cleaning (or replacing) the fuel injectors, I recommend
giving it some thought.

My test case has 108k miles, ran a little ragged when cold, and had
somewhat low fuel mileage.  Steady 70mph on flat road would settle
somewhere between 23-24mpg.  Power seemed ok and otherwise ran pretty
well.

I took the injectors to:

since they are about 5 miles from my home.  Nice people and they
finished in one day.  The before/after data sheet is somewhat minimal.
There is a hand drawn bar graph depicting individual flow volume, and
one or more codes per injector to indicate normal, stringy, leaking, or
other conditions.

Before:
My volumes varied about 6%, which doesn't seem like much.  One injector
was noticeably lower than the others, while a different injector had a
'stringy' pattern, others being normal.  At first I was a little
disappointed that more bad stuff hadn't been found, but then realized I
had sub-optimal conditions in two cylinders, so I was expecting to
notice a difference.

After:
Volumes identical, patterns normal.  New filters and O-rings installed. 
A separate plastic wrap has all the old parts.

The difference was immediately obvious, running very smoothly right from
cold, something it would never do before.  Starting is easier cold or
hot, and the engine is smoother over the whole spectrum.  Steady 70mph
now gets about 26-27mpg.  For me, the improvement was worth the $135.
