[200q20v] Trip Computer

OK guys...this is actually a question for my '92 S4 but.....Anyway, the trip
computer in the car has been reading instantaneous MPG in the spot where it
is supposed to read boost ever since I bought the car. It's like somebody
put a 100 computer into it....or, is it the same computer and is there a
switch on the back of the instrument cluster, or at the computer, that
determines what gets put in this spot on the display? Thanks.

You're refering to the distributor driven gear, I presume.

Dear fellow listers,
Now that I see Chris Miller has a phone for sale on the
list, I offer a car to put it in!
I am about to list in The market place the following:
'91 200q20v Avant 96,000 orig. miles. Mica blue exterior/
platinum silver interior (sport seats). 1.5 owners( car
purchased new by current wife's 1st husband (now riding the
big Audi in the sky) and maintained by me since 8/98. In
last year maintenance/improvements include: all new fluids
and filters (K+N air), O2, TBV, bomb, PRV, etc. all ignition
parts and wires, new injectors, new windshield, timing belt,
steering and suspension rubber, new turbo Boges (f+r), AND
new brakes (UFO's of course.) One month ago, the car also
received Euro headlights and a Hoppen stage one chip. These
two items will be sold as an extra option, as I may just
move them to my other "91 200q20v Avant.
EVERYTHING on the car is perfectly sorted out--there's
really nothing left to do. The car has never been crunched,
and has only minor door dings. Wheels are original and good
and buyer gets one set of skins: Hakkapelita NRW snows
(205/65 15, or Michelin XGT's 215/60.
I'll take photos tonight. Please contact me if you have an
interest in buying one of 10 (or fewer) '91 Avants that
still have a 0, not a 1 or a 2 in the first odometer slot.
Car carefully maintained by Audi wizard Fritz Reineke!
Price--------------------------$10,600 (Euro's and chip,
extra)
Any takers????Richard E. Berlin, Jr.

Well, what's considered a lot of work?
You need an antenna installed, a pass-through on the glass (glue-on) would
work.
You need the "brain", that's included, and mounts on the frame rail in the
trunk. You need the wiring harness; I'll include that from the phone to the
console.
You need a microphone and speaker; might be better to get that after market?
So, pretty easy overall; no more involved than any installation process for
an installed phone.

Anyone know what they use the GM recorder decoder for? Seems rather
intrusive at the side of the road... Perhaps they use it to analyze their
own vehicles.... wishfull thinking on my part?

Every US state and every country is different (mebbe the EU has common regs
now?) and this fact does make it difficult. For example, in MA, USA, it
definitely is illegal to have more than two pairs of lights _present_ on the
vehicle, unless all additional lights >2 pair are covered. It is also
illegal to have off-road lights _present_ on the roof of a vehicle unless
they are covered _at all times_, they can never be illuminated at any time
on a public way. It's almost as confusing a mish-mash of laws as are US
firearms laws! Hope I haven't offended anyone this time....
