Subject: [200q20v] Fault Code 2112

Anyone have experience with fault code 2112. According to the SJM reference
library, if the sensor fails, the car will not restart. I've cleared the
codes, restarted the engine and get 2112 again. Just happened last night so
I haven't had a chance to check the manual but I'm hoping someone has a
simple solution to this.

Thanks,

Pete

Distributor out of alignment? Did you just do a new distributor, or a
timing belt? Try rotating the distributor slightly.

Could also be a dirty/damaged reference sensor.

I did get a new dist from Rod at TPC. I think what Ned is trying to get
across is that there is a window that the ECU wants to see the hall sender
in reference to the flywheel sense. If it's close to the edge of this window
you get full boost only on the first full throttle run until a reboot. If
it's really out the motor won't run. I have no first hand experience with
this that I can verify, but apparently an oscilloscope is used to compare
the hall sender signal to the flywheel signal to set the dist position. No
mention of this in the Bently of course. My symptoms are mostly good boost
at sub 3k RPMS, but low boost (1.4 bar ) above 3k rpms. Boost
intermittently builds in approximately 5 to 10 second cycles above 3k rpms.
It'll be interesting to see how my distributer can have so much up and down
freeplay. I'm guessing that the plastic gear is nearly off the bottom. I
really hope it fixes my boost trouble.

Wow - I usually maintain 1.5 -> 1.6 bar to well over 4k, and usually over 5k
rpms, with my stock ECU. And thats at about 5k feet elevation.

good luck!!!

I know, I know! It used to work right. Really sucks right now. Heck, my urq

Gary,
I think the problem on your shifter feel may be twofold. For one it sounds
like you have got something that isn't quite working right, maybe a bad
synchro, it definitely should not take much effort except when it's really
cold....but the second thing is that when I got my S4, after having two
200's for a couple of years now, I was amazed at the tranny feel....much
improved. So I don't know if you have ever driven any other 200's but
that's what I would try to compare to.

Subject: [200q20v] From 1.8 to 1.9 bar with cleaned K&N and new BPV

After owning this car for 3 months, I finally got around to checking the air
filter. EEEEgads! I've never seen such a dirty filter and air box. One
thing's for sure, it was filtering well. The TB side was clean as a whistle.

After cleaning the box and filter and replacing the original BPV, I noticed
that the dash gauge read up to 1.9 bar, whereas before it maxed-out at 1.8.

Which would be more likely to have brought about this change, the new BPV or
cleaned-up filter?

BTW, the original BPV Bosch# was 0 280 142 106
I picked up the replacement for $45 at the dealer. P/N 0 280 142 108

Hey JP and list,

When I removed it before installing the new BPV last night, I noticed that
it
had a pretty significant amount of oil(?) in the grooves. Just as much as
when you looked at it a couple of weeks ago. I'm starting to wonder about my
turbo. Should I be concerned?

Within 2 months of having the Hoppen chip installed, my M-M hose went
from absolutely bone-dry (120k miles) to always being puddled with
oil. Of course that same 2-month period included a weekend at Watkins
Glen last summer, after which I first noticed the oil. I've decided
to limit concern (ever the optimist) to the M-M hose, which will
deteriorate more quickly--now that it's perpetually oily.

OK, so I've had my 91 200TQA for a while now, and I like it. Everything
seems bigger and heavier than my S4, which is OK, but the tranny sure isn't
the slickest shifting thing. Very slow from neutral into first gear, and
coming out of some gears, I think third mostly, requires quite a tug. Is
this just the way they are? I've been thinking of changing the fluid to Red
Line MT90. Any opinions. Looks like a tight fit for the drain plug. Is there
a special tool. I measured it, and if I remember right, it is 17mm hex. Any
input appreciated.

Yea Bob. The 102 I got honks too. Maybe that's why it was superseded by 108.
Hey, look on the bright side, at least we know it's working!! ;-)

A couple of weeks ago I replaced my bypass valve with a stock 034 145 710 A
(Bosch p/n 0 280 142 108). Then when Gary Martin mentioned that Adirondack
had the Sport Q BPVs for $27, p/n 035 145 710 (Bosch p/n 0 280 142 102), I
figured I would order one to give it a try. The sport BPV seemed to feel a
bit more responsive (very subjective) but the main thing I noticed is that
it had a tendency to honk at partial throttle around 2700 - 2800 rpm. I
drove it around that way for a couple of days and nothing changed. I then
switched back to the stock BPV and the honking went away.

Has anyone else noticed this on the Sport BPV (Bosch 102)?

Anyone ever substitute a version of our hydraulic oil with the designation
S61.61? I got a bottle along with a can of 11S in a recent order. The
S61.61 says meets Bentley specs etc., also a German product as well, and not
a whale oil by product.
 thanks, Gregg

Change that fluid! Could save you big bux down the
road... On engaging first; stop the spinning gears in
the trans before engaging first by moving the lever
toward third (with the clutch dis-engaged). Makes
engagement of first much easier and saves
wear-and-tear on that frequently used first-gear
syncro by sharing the load on the third-gear syncro.
Werks for rev too (no grind-oh), but use 5th first.
(duzzat make sense?)

lost one this winter while they were off and the snos

No, sorry. This is a common Audi thread, but I don't understand why. The
correct Pentosin runs about $12 a quart, and the system holds about a quart.
If you're leaking enough to make that too expensive, fix the leak.
Why test if your new fluid is compatible with various seals and leftover old
fluid, to save a couple bucks per year? What if it causes damage?

Going to change the fluid, as a preventive measure. I bet it works fine.

Hi folks.

Karquattro.com is parting a 200Q20v. It has a
recently rebuilt transmission.

Agree with fundalo; don't know how bent valves would occur with that
incident, unless cam gets jammed and timing belt jumps or breaks. As for a
good source for a distributor, I had the best luck with the parts
connection. Best price, and quick delivery since I live on the west coast.
Didn't try Carlson's for price reference.

I also had some play in the shaft of my old dist, but it doesn't sound to be
to the same degree as what your experiencing, unless you meant millimeters.
Had to replace mine because of a hall sender problem. Also had some oil
leakage w/in distributor at time or replacement.

As for the distributor alignment tool, I wound up not using it. Just set
the engine to tdc on the cam, then align the distributor to the same upon
install (tick mark on the rim of the dist with tick mark on hall sender
metal sheild). Ned Ritchie recomended turning dist body app 1 deg clockwise
I belive relative to dist to help prevent crossfiring. Didn't quite pick up
on his logic there-just set it up at tdc.

Machined metal gears may become available soon, but if you're in a pinch go
new, many problems are eliminated.

I agree, it doesn't seem possible, but it does seem very odd that the dist
was changed and shortly afterwards the cam locked up. Perhaps a peice of the
old plastic gear got stuck in the drive gear on the cam? This info is second
hand, so I don't know the details. I just know I don't want to duplicate the
situation.
