Don't laugh. At the moment, there's a fake virus warning going around
telling people to delete a fairly critical windows system file. Our
director of support just got through telling people to not remove the file.
Simple rule. Follow the directions of your IT staff, or if you're a home
user, look on a major antivirus software vendor's site, many maintain both
a listing of both real viruses and hoaxes.
There is a commonly referred to virus called the
"itcameinmymailboxitmustbetrue" virus. People will believe ANYTHING,
including "Bill Gates will send you $100 if you forward this message to 10
other people!", if it drifts into their mailbox.
