[200q20v] Those interested in 3B distributor GP

As things move forward on this end of the distributor gp, wanted to also let
people know that I have found a place up here in Seattle that is a custom
gear manufacturing shop.  I have been in contact with them to see about
getting a replacement metal gear manufactured, and the cost for a gp.

I think this is worth considering before buying a new distributor for the
just in case scenario.  My understanding is that a gear manufactured for the
20v turbo will also work for the na 20v, so if anybody on here is also
subscribed to that list, could you forward this info on.

Here are some specs for the run we are looking for. As to source material,
we'll take your recomendation on that, however it does need to be metal.
The gear is a helical cut, automobile distributor drive gear, so load is
anticipated to be fairly low.  Main consideration is accuracy/consistency of
production and material quality, and longevity.  The input and output drives
are offset by 90 degrees.  To my knowledge, there are two holes in the gear;
one of course for the driven shaft, and one perpindicular to the driven
shaft axis to allow fastening between the gear and the output shaft.

At this point, looking for a pricing estimate for a run of 20, and a run of
30 gears.  Additionally, prior to any production run, we would furnish you
with an example of the gear to be reproduced to serve as a template, and
will give you a definite quantity for production.

Specs follow below.

must really be 45 degrees, half of the angle between shaft center lines.

With only a dial caliper, no way to measure pitch diameter, but here are my
measurements.  We probably need to know the center to center distance of the
two shafts also.  Of course, the mating cam gear would be half this diameter
and number of teeth.

OD         1.225"
Root Dia    .950"
Face width  .390"
Hub Dia     .875"
Overall L   .790"
Shaft Dia    12mm
Teeth        14
Helix Angle  40 deg.

It looks like it is a workable situation, the only question at this point is
what their cost of manufacturing will be.  In the least, I'm sure it'll be
cheaper than a new distributor.
