The rotor on the distributor is horizontal, and spins at very high speed.
The factory glued it for an engineering reason, IMO, and I'd recommend you do
so as well; there is even a Bosch procedure for removing and reinstalling the
rotor.

16v VW's also glue rotors, and have had some catastropic failures when
replaced without gluing.  Not common, but documented.
