Hi Peter,

Contrary to other opinions, IMO, the hi press hose, stock or made up, will
not cause the symptoms that you state.

I suspect that you have a failing pump, one or more of the six piston check
valves has failed or is not sealing, an internal leakage problem.  The
resultant low and pulsating pump output volume would account for your low
speed problems.
