Your gas mileage is probably a little better than you think. Remember, the
diameter of the new tire is larger, although the odometer is set to give
accurate ?? readings based on diameter of standard wheel/tire diameter.
Since you are going farther with each roll of the tires, you are consuming
less gas per distance, or are getting more distance for each roll of the
tires than measured by the odometer. Assuming my odometer was accurate to my
speedometer, I found my speedo about 3-4% off, which was corrected by going
to 225-55/16's.
WRT to the rear fender liners, I simply removed them. Haven't noticed any
ill effects in 4 years, and I can't say there is any more road noise
noticed. Easy to remove, or just heat/file down offending part.
