Phil, everyone (way too many to thank for your posts)....

I'm not a "camera" guy - I'm trying to replace/supplement an Olympus IQ
zoom compact camera and a 1st generation Sony digital 8 camcorder
I own a Canon AE1 SLR that I have rarely used...

OTOH, I have had the opportunity to use some high end Nikon SLR
equipment....so I can appreciate the difference in the results

Phil Payne and a few others recommend small, pocket sized cameras, ala
Canon Elph, Casio, or Kyocera (Yashica) pocket models.

On the other end of the spectrum, I've used one of the Kodak cameras
(DC3400?) and been under whelmed..
That said Chris Miller has offered to let me try a Nikon Coolpix 950 (I
keep finding good reasons to live close to Chris - besides his knowledge of
the 200 20v ;^)...

It's really going to boil down to price/performance/portability - I may end
up getting a 3 Mpixel camera for all around work and keep a cheapy <$100
dollar model around for snap shots.

Things that I don't want:
digital zoom (want optical)
memory stick (don't want to go down the betamax path ;^)

One thing that I noticed about this thread...I've never generated this much
traffic and received as many reponses
(the last 7 years of posting to the quattro and other lists  ;^p
