[200q20v] Intermittant A/C

Is something baaaad about to happen to my A/C? It quit
yesterday afternoon in 104 degree weather (just blew
hot air) for one 10 minute drive, but worked fine in
the early evening (~85 degrees) for the 10 minute
drive back, then didn't work again later for a few 5
min. errands.  

Can the A/C clutch become intermittent, or might those
doors in the air distrubution box be getting confused,
maybe due to intermittant vacuum leaks? 

Hint: last month I got the fogged-windshield symptom
upon cold start a few times, but not since, so I
haven't investigated that yet.
