Hey all,

Correct on the distributor info. Original factory gear is plastic,
replacement distributor has metal gear thanks to hindsight.

I replaced my distributor some time ago because of a bad hall sender, but
before doing it looked into (with the help of BB) a replacement gear only.
No dice. Some time after replacement the idea of getting one machined using
an old distributor as a blue print came up. My old dist. was volunteered
towards this end, to help in just these situations. Well to date, no dice,
and my expectations of seeing done are dwindling. So, wouldn't wait for
that. If I do however hear word or promise of completion, I'll keep y'all
informed.

As to price, I bought my distributor from TPC and was able to get it for a
cost of around 275.

Finally, since I anticipate the question coming up, you don't need the
alignment tool as per Bentley. Just make sure the crank and cam are lined
up to tdc, and align the the rotor to the tick mark on the outside edge of
the distributor body. My car is still running with not bent valves or
otherwise bustedness in the engine, so appears to work.

Kneale:

What happened to BB philosophy of "don't fix it if it isn't broken"? ;^)

The replacement distributor has a metal gear and the correct (thin) rotor.

I'm looking for a price target of $252 or less.
