[200q20v] extended warranties

Mark...only had one experience and it was back in the mid-80s. Bought a gray
market 911SC Targa. It was in horrendous "Mexico blue" paint, but it was
cheap. I knew the fellow that I bought it from and had bought a number of cars
from him previously. He was, at the time, a dealer in all kinds of European
iron and engaged in the import and conversion of Mercedes and Porsches. He
INSISTED that I buy the extended warranty that he offered at a price, I think,
of about $450.00, covering the entire drivetrain for a year. The only reason I
bought it was that he had never pushed me to buy one before, even though he had
been offering them for some time. To make a long story short, the engine in
the Porsche lasted for one trip from Philadelphia to Washington, D.C. and
back. The total rebuild cost nearly $8,000.00 and, except for a $100.00
deductible, was entirely covered! Money extremely well-spent, thanks, I think,
to a car salesman with a conscience! HTH, Tom
