First mistake 90% of the time is turning rotors, IMO.  Rotors of any type
will tend to wear true.  Turned rotors are never true.  Defining "way thin"
is the usual second mistake.  Don't go by the factory min thickness spec,
which is designed only to cover the mfgs ass and make business for the
replacement market  The pistons won't fall out of the calipers before the
cooling slots show thru the rotor faces, (slotted rotors are good, right?).
Further, a worn rotor becomes its own best pad wear indicator, in that the
unworn rotor edges either side of the pad will contact the pad backing plate
in warning long before the active surface is damaged.  BTDT, all the time.
Rotors on all of my Audis are well "under spec thickness" and are good for
200 to 300K more miles.  If you must by UFO rotors, used are the only
