[200q20v] Scary Noise- Please Help!

Couple things I can think of is the accesory drive belts as Phil mentioned, 
or maybe some or one of the timing belt metal guards bolts are loose.  I 
assume Phils idea of wetting the belts would work, or maybe just 
systematically loosen belts until you find the offending party.  Could also 
be tensioner pulley on timing belt.  Hard to say.  Another idea I've heard 
of people doing to isolate noise sources is to use a screwdriver or the like 
microphonically; one end against the question mark equipment feature, the 
other to your ear.

Sorry can't give you a specific answer, but maybe this will help you.  
Wouldn't worry about the traile to shop option though, doesn't sound 
constant enough to break.

Hi Folks,

My 91 200q makes a rythmic but not constant noise after driving that seems
to emanate from the accessory drive/water pump/timing belt area. The timing
belt only has 20k on it, and the accessory belts are (I believe) pretty
fresh. My fear is that the water pump may go, taking the timing belt with
it, causing major internal damage. Can anyone describe noises that indicate
I should have it flat-bedded to my tech without further driving, versus
non-terminal noises such as bearings in the alternator that would mean I can
use the car until I get it to my man who is 35 miles away? I'll be the most
grateful guy ever. TIA
