www.digikey.com or Radio Shack are two possibilities.  Also see if an
Active Electronics branch is in your area(I think they're national,
not sure.)  They generally have much, much better selection of
electronic parts(picture the "parts" section of RS expanded out to
the entire store), much better prices, no annoying loud music(many
stores seem to like rap or hip-hop which annoys me to no end), cheapo
robots and remote control cars wandering around, screaming
children(who want said robots/cars), or senior citizens tying up the
sales staff("SIR, HERE'S THE CORRECT BATTERY FOR YOUR HEARING AID"
"EEEH?" etc*)

Oh, and the staff usually know -exactly- what they're talking about.

LEDs work particularly well; usually you have to get them in packages
of at least 2; connect them back-to-back, and polarity won't matter,
which is semi-handy.  Check the back of the package for maximum
current; subtract a few mA and buy the appropriate resistor to get
that current at 13.8v.

Another way, although much more difficult, is to pull the dash and
install a bulb or move an existing bulb, and put the dash back(the
hard part.)  I moved the "hey, your door is open" light over(between
the dinging and the interior lights coming on, I think I've got the
"a door is open" thing covered :-)
