...but couldn't that RPM effect also be a symptom of the infamous
"blue wire" (exciter?) being disconnected? Guess it depends on
meaning of "slight raise in engine speed".

As to the matter of pulley size--I wouldn't mind having a slightly
smaller pulley if for no other reason than to simply ease the
installation of the drive belt. My pulley may now be the "correct"
size, but IMHO the Audi spec for drivebelt length is tooooo short by
many millimeters. In fact I seem to recall that the Family Album
mentions use of another (longer) belt.
