That's not normal at all, you're right.  I'd get it checked out right
away, yes...and I would assume that it's not the sensor for now(ie,
don't continue driving) until proven otherwise.  You could have a
clogged up oil sump or something.  Very unlikely, but who wants to
find out the hard way?
