Depends upon how much you save.  You say you'd save only $500 a year by
going to PL/PD.  So what's your deductible?  In addition to paying $500 for
collision, are you also subject to paying out, say, the price of
replacement windshields ?  If your car gets totaled, what would you
get?  In my case, I figured I'd be buying the car again every 4-5 years
with the collision coverage cost, and the "benefit" to me in the case of
theft or a significant crash wouldn't be enough to actually replace the
car.  Ask your insurer to "estimate" how much they'd give you in a loss.
