The gear is strickly a follower gear in this application, transmitting
absloutely no torque. Any material with suitable longevity will work,
including plastic, if it had included this as a design consideration. This
aluminum bronze alloy was the gear shop's choice of material from a
machining, volume, and application perspective, with my approval.
