Bronze v. Steel

Bernie,
In a college-level auto shop class (taken a few decades ago) I recall
the teacher saying that bronze was a preferable distributor gear drive
material because 1) it was softer than the steel it would come in
contact with, 2) the distributor was easier to replace than an
internal engine component, and most significantly in his opininon, 3)
bronze had metalurgical surface characteristics that retained
lubrication oil on its surface thus reducing wear.

In my opinion you made a good choice of gear drive materials.
