Odd Hard Start Issue

Josh,

Thanks for the suggestion, btdt. When I had the problem, it came up in the
fault codes, but I could never replicate the problem consistently enough to
manually check. Then one day (after timing belt replacement) the car gave
me the big f.u. and wouldn't start. Checked everything, and it was good.
Finally bucked up and bought the dist...problem solved.

My local wrench also didn't think to check codes first and went right to the
fuel-pressure check. Checked out fine back then. Symptoms are the same,
except for consistent starting when cold now. Before it was intermitent
when it pleased.

Derek,

I had a similar problem with hard starting when warm, check SJM's site and
look into the hall (effect) sender. I don't know if you can replace or
repair the sender short of replacing the distributor ($$) which is what my
local shop did. That was right after I purchased the car and knew very
little of it...mistake...because it is hard to find a shop that can
competently diagnose problems..as I found out, my shop (former) thought the
best course of action would be to replace a bunch of expensive parts
first....

good luck
