Well in defense of Eric... Audi actually offered a similar piece for
the donut headrests from the factory. Though it was a rare option, I've
only seen it in European V8 4.2's. It was a leather center portion that was
contoured to the back of the head and had straps to connect to the donut
headrest, pretty similar to this product in it's use. Would Audi provide
something that would severely effect safety? Why did Audi change the design
to a solid headrest for all their newer cars as well?
Personally I don't mind the donuts, the visibility issue I have never
noticed, and in an accident I doubt this "modification" would do any harm at
all. The headrest in mum's new allroad is a nice solid piece like this
add-on one and it didn't make me sleepy at all, actually made my neck feel
better after a 3 hour drive. The donut style I just tilt fully forward if I
want to lean the back of my head against it, but I rarely do, usually hold
my own head up.
I'd say each to his own on this, but I can't see any safety concerns
with this "modification" at all. Email was a little harsh IMO.
Cheers,
