You leave your hand on the shift knob?

Since we're below freezing most of most winters (this year being one of the
odd seasons with really strange temps like today's mid-40's),  I wear thin
leather gloves for driving every day until the car warms up.  Regardless, I
could see a metal knob feeling slightly colder than a wood one.  But I only
touch the knob while shifting.  A leftover habit from the 50's and 60's
when VW trannies supposedly disliked having their levers serve as handrests.
