I presume from the form of the question that the curved end remains on the
spring, meaning that it has eaten its way through the plastic to which it's
normally attached rather than broken.
You're looking at a rectangular opening when you look up into the
box. There are two narrow plastic arms crossing the short width of the
rectangle in the middle. They support the vacuum motor that operates the
doors. They're just under an inche apart. Spanning the gap between them
is a small bar maybe 1/8 inch thick. That's the anchor for the spring
end. Again, if the spring is intact, it probably has cut through that
bar. What I did to fix that circumstance was to bend some thin galvanized
metal about 3/4" wide and 1" long into a "U" and drill an 1/8 inch hole
through both the long ends. I slipped the U over the plastic bar and
pinched it closed, so both holes lined up. Then I hooked the spring
through the combined holes.
Being largish of limb and body but too short for my size, I found the
workspace for this repair very limiting. I think I took out the glovebox
and some other piece of plastic in that area. I also took out the plastic
bit in the center of the door that the spring fastens through so I could
hook that on the spring. I found it easier to slip the plastic anchor back
into the door than to slip the spring through the anchor while it was in
the door. I think it's just a 90-degree twist to get the anchor in or out
of the door.
